O’s Notes: Singer Oliver Mtukudzi hails from Zimbabwe. He is spreading the sounds of this African nation throughout the world. The rhythms have a hint of reggae but more closely resemble music from neighboring South Africa. It is a festive dancing music. Oliver also plays acoustic guitar leading a band including Clive Bobby Mutyasira (d), Never Mpofu (b), Clive Mono Mukundu (g), Jairos Hambahamba (p), Adam Chisvo (congas) and Kenny Neshamba (sax) with singers Namatai Mubariki, Mary Bell and Eric Picky Kasamba. We liked “Kuropodza” best of the dozen tunes.
