O’s Notes: Chris is a new face on the jazz scene but he is no stranger with his instrument. He plays guitar leading a trio with drummer Christian Parry and Linke Hebrew on bass. Hough composed these ten selections that lean towards neobop though they suggest contemporary jazz in the liner notes. The pace is generally relaxed with no showboating. Among the best are “Tin Spin”, “Thirds on Blue” and “Turbulence”. All of the musicians play well and the unit is well rehearsed. Hough’s notes are very precise, almost calculated. The music swings but Hough could loosen up a bit and allow more feeling to surface. We look forward to hearing his effort.
