O’s Notes: Jared Schonig is a drummer, composer and bandleader who resides in New York where he plays with a who’s-who list of musicians as well as on Broadway. His latest project is Two Takes, two volumes of original music, the same tracks for both volumes. We listened alone and side by side. Volume I is a quintet that is in your face and aggressive featuring Marquis Hill (t), Godwin Louis (a-sax), Luis Perdomo (p), Matt Clohesy (b) and a lot of Schonig, including four drum intros/interludes. Our favorites here are slightly different: “Sound Evidence”, NUTS”, “Eight Twenty” and “Sabotage”.
