O’s Notes: This is a re-release of 1992’s Ugly Beauty featuring pianist Kevin Hays with bassist Larry Grenadier and Jeff Williams on drums. The program is a nice mix of tunes across several tempos. They open with the upbeat “Shade Of Jade” followed by the relaxing “Chelsea Bridge”, “The Well”, and the title track, some of the six selections that all impart a sense of calmness that facilitates listening, even 25+ years after its initial release!
