O’s Notes: The Britton Brothers are John on trumpet and Ben playing sax. Jeremy Siskind (p), Taylor Waugh (b) and Austin Walker (d) are the funky rhythm section behind them. The groove is heavily syncopated with the Brothers layering brass melodies on top. Guest artist Chris Potter (sax) adds even more horsepower to the horn section on “Anticipation” and the spontaneous closer “Ducks In A Row”. They also play “June Humidity”, a ballad and the swinging “Molo” featuring Waugh with a heavy bass solo. But the best tunes are on the funky side as with the title track. John wrote 3, Ben wrote 3 and Jeremy added one to go with the cover of “Come Thou Fount”. Our favorite is “Mr. John McNeil” dedicated to the great trumpet player.
