O’s Notes: The legendary drummer Roy Brooks took his quintet to the famous ballroom in Baltimore, MD for the Left Bank Jazz Society on November 1, 1970. The previously unreleased session was just released posthumously as Understanding. Harold Mabern (p), Cecil McBee (b), Woody Shaw (t) and Carlos Garnet (t-sax) joined Brooks while all of the musicians were in their prime. An excellent bass intro by McBee tips off the title track. There are six selections performed to an appreciative audience.
