O’s Notes: This is Roney’s seventh album in a decade with High Note characterized by the unexpected. Wallace has made a habit of infusing young talent into his repertoire. For Understanding, he uses an all-new band of young lions: Daryl Johns (b), Kush Abadey (d), Ben Solomon (ts), new pianist Victor Gould, Arnold Lee (as) and pianist Eden Ladin (p). Roney’s fresh approach encourages the musicians to stretch out and try new things. This bodes well even on the covers as they find their unique voice.
