O’s Notes: New York Standards Quartet features pianist David Berkman, Tim Armacost (sax, fl), Gene Jackson (d) and bassist Yosuke Inoue. The program consists of a blend of originals and very creative arrangements of jazz standards. The original intent was to record all covers but the creativity transformed many of the pieces into new works. The results are very good with Berkman and company producing a very listenable set. Of note are “All The Things You Are” and “Summer Night”.
