O’s Notes: Producer, guitarist and vocalist Paul Brown has been the man behind the scenes for many of the best contemporary jazz artists including Rick Braun and Kirk Whalum. He takes the lead on this session but allows space for his guests to shine as well. Brown had a part in composing seven of the twelve tracks, a cool collection that has broad appeal. Paul sounds a lot like Wes Montgomery, especially on Wes’ tune “Angel”. There’s plenty of variety with a nice arrangement of “My Funny Valentine” including Peter White (nylon string guitar), the cool “24/7” with Rick Braun (t) and the funky “Phat City” with Boney James (sax). This one is a sure winner!
