O’s Notes: The Jazz All-Stars are a talented team including Chris Colangelo (b), Vinny Colaiuta (d), Bill Cunliffe (p) and Michael Dease (tb). Le Coq is a new label and this is their debut release. Guitarist Jake Langley takes the first solo on “Theme For Flotus” followed by Rick Margitza (sax), John Patitucci (b), pianist John Beasley and Alex Acuña (perc). And that’s just track one of eight incredible selections with well-developed solos and exchanges. We can’t forget Joe LaBarbera (d) who makes a statement on “Te Wero Nui”. Other highlights include “Afro Blue” and a fresh arrangement of “Caravan” featuring guest vocalist, co-producer Andy James. This is a helluva start for Le Coq! Stay tuned.
