O’s Notes: Vibraphonist Terry Gibbs’ latest recording is Vol 7. The Lost Tapes, 1959, made at two different venues in Hollywood, CA. It was released to coincide with his 100th birthday last October 13, 2024! It is a swinging large ensemble and Gibbs is dazzling us in his youth. The first six volumes of Terry’s Dream Band were released in the 1980s-90s. This late edition was discovered recently by Terry’s son, drummer Gerry Gibbs. Volume 7 is certainly on par with the earlier releases, a vibrant, precise recording with many head-bobbers, notably “Softly As In A Morning Sunrise”.
