O’s Notes: Vibraphonist Cecilia Smith is not well known but very well accomplished! The Cleveland native now resides in NY. She’s got over 30 years of experience, a graduate and professor at Berklee. The first volume of The Mary Lou Williams Resurgence Project includes Lafayette Harris, Jr., or Carlton Holmes on piano & B3, Kenny Davis (b) and Ron Savage (d). There are bluesy vocals from Carla Cook on “What’s Your Story Morning Glory” and “Tell Me How Long the Train’s Been Gone”. There’s also a legendary ode, “Who Was Mary Lou Williams” featuring Spoken word by Sheila Anderson. We also enjoyed “It’s A Grand Night For Swinging” with a fine solo from Davis.
