O’s Notes: This recording tries to bridge the gap between Ethiopia and American Contemporary music. The beats are a funky combination of African, reggae, hip-hop and Latin music. Rap vocals come from leaders Maki Siraj and David “Ashagre” Schommer on top of the fierce rhythms and beats. The net effect is a heavy club sound that is mostly upbeat and packed with energy. Our favorite was “Aya Bellew” with the grinding bass.
