O’s Notes: This jazz fusion trio has a large and creative sound. They are Brian Haas (p), Reed Mathis (b) and Jason Smart (d). The music is all-new, written by the band members. It is dedicated to the late drummer Elvin Jones. While there are several good songs we were most impressed with “Daily Wheatgrass Shots” and “Perfect Wife’s Flannel PJs”, both heavily syncopated tunes that are kind of funky. We also liked the cooler “Calm Before the Storm”. The 4-song DVD is a live set at Yoshi’s allowing you to witness Reed making his bass sound like an electric violin/guitar!
