O’s Notes: Pianist John Shaw leads a quintet through a swinging set of seven modern jazz tunes.““Bassist Monte Butts, drummer Renardo Ward, Johnny Yancey on trumpet and saxophonist Kyle Lee join Shaw to form the Jazz Alliance. All of the songs are““originals composed post-2000. We enjoyed the East St. Louis groove of the second two selections while “Metropolis”, “Bahnhofstrasse” and “Lumark’s Tune” are on the mellow side. All are enjoyable in this balanced set.
