O’s Notes: British jazz saxophonist, composer, producer Josephine Davies plays in a quartet with James Maddren (d), Dave Whitford (b), and Alcyona Mick (p) for Weatherwards, her latest release. It is a continuation of her Satori project, focused on her life in the Shetland Islands (Scotland) during her childhood. Five of the songs are in her trio however Mick makes her presence known adding fine piano work to the mix on the remaining six tunes. “Up Hilly Aa”, “Heraeth”, “Saxa Vord”, and “Holes of Scraada” are among the best selections.
