O’s Notes: Understated pianist and composer Adam Shulman assembles a fine septet combing musicians on West (coast) Meets East coast. And true to his usual form Shulman supports his band coaxing great solos from his band. Among the best are “Mingus Dreams of Billy Strayhorn” with Ian Hendrickson-Smith (a-sax) leading the melody, “Jack’s Basket” with the horns trading blows, and the bouncy “Central Avenue Rundown”.
