O’s Notes: Saxophonist Mike Cohen composed most of the music on Winter Sun, actually reliving some of the darker moments in his teenage years with monthly chemotherapy to fight off Leukemia. The music reflects his successful journey and continued blessings. Cohen gets great support from bassist Danny Weller on “Where Did I Go”, and from pianist Brian Gelfand on “Eulogy For Anne” and “Winter Sun”. We also enjoyed the vibrant “Guardian Tiger”.
