O’s Notes: Vibraphonist, pianist, and bandleader Mark Sherman modernized hard bop with a lively set on With Freedom. Saxophonist Sam Dillon is the featured soloist with Ugonna Okegwo on bass and Jonathan Blake keeping time. They swing hard on the opener “Third Eye” and maintain the pace while sprinkling in a couple of ballads like the title track and “Fanny O”. We also enjoyed “Love Thy Neighbor”, “Open My Heart” and “Transcendence”.
