O’s Notes: Vibraphonist Warren Wolf brings that special element to the jazz front that is uncommon on today’s scene. He performs with a strong team including Benny Green (p), Christian McBride (b), Lewis Nash (d) and Aaron Goldberg (p). The program has six Wolf originals with three cool covers. They swing hard and got our head bobbing on “Frankie and Johnny” and “Things Were Done Yesterday”. But most of the set simmers with cool ballads like “Septembro” featuring Darryl Tookes (vocals). There is excellent interaction between Warren and Aaron Diehl on “Wolfgang”. None of the songs are overcooked instead surfacing the rich tones of Warren’s vibes. It’s a keeper!
