O’s Notes: Among the most melodic and exciting jazz trombonists is Steve Turre. His live performances are worth the buck, one of a select few that we’d pay to see over and over. So we anxiously opened Woody’s Delight and were not disappointed. Turre made 14 albums with Shaw and finds it natural to do this dedication. Steve writes all but one of the 9 tracks with a trombone and trumpet front line true to the Shaw format. Jon Faddis, Wallace Roney, Claudio Rodito and Freddie Hendrix are four of the best trumpeter on the scene who join Turre to make this a powerful brassy effort. There is no holding back and the listener benefits from an energizing session.
