O’s Notes: Saxophonist Ken Field and Scott Getchell (t) founded the Revolutionary Snake Ensemble, a brassy band that combines rump-shaking rhythms with New Orleans marching brass. There is a lot of funky syncopation on “Soul Makossa”, an upbeat workout beat for “Central Square” and a bit of rumba on “El Choclo” as they vary their approach. The Year of the Snake is a very good one.
