O’s Notes: Yimba Rudo“is a free jazz trio featuring Kevin Norton (vibes), Steve LaSpina (b) and Jim Pugliese (d). Yimba Rudo means ïsing love’ in Zimbabwe’s Shona language. The music is on the softer side of free jazz and while the three musicians dance individually, their efforts coalesce nicely. Norton’s vibraphone dominates the session with generous amounts of African percussion sprinkled in along the way. Our favorite tracks are ‘Walking The Dogma‘, ‘Toronto‘ and ‘Morph‘ with a strong solo by LaSpina.
