O’s Notes: Spanish guitar virtuoso Lawson Rollins assembles a global cast of musicians to perform his latest creations. There are eleven jovial tunes with infusions of Brazil, Europe, the Middle East and America. “Cafe Jobim” and “Infinita” feature vocals from guest artists Flora Purim and Airto Moreira. “Echoes of Madrid” is just that, with Charlie Bisharat (violin) softening the dazzling flamenco guitar of Rollins. We liked the funky world beats of “In Motion”, “Streets of San Miguel” and the blend of Middle Eastern and Spanish beats on “The Awakening”. This is one of the best world jazz albums we’ve heard in quite some time.
