O’s Notes: Dan selects fourteen of Duke Ellington’s featured compositions and cast them in his own light. “New York City Blues” is a soothing number led by Block’s warm sax and anchored by Lee Hudson on bass. They pick up the pace on “Old King Dooji with Brian Grice maintaining the beat. This one really swings. Dan chooses his clarinet for “Are You Stickin’?” a bouncy tune. You’ll be mesmerized by the “Ballad Medley”. Lee Hudson leeds the way on “Mt. Harrissa” bringing the bass to the forefront and then opens “Creole Blues” helping to make this a complete effort.
