O’s Notes: Pianist Edward Simon leads a vibrant rhythm section with Adam Cruz (d), Roberto Koch (b), Luis Quintero (perc), Leonardo Granados (maracas) and Edmar Castañeda (harp). Venezuelan Suite is quite an orchestration with Marco Granados playing flute harmonized with Mark Turner’s tenor sax, Bass clarinet from John Ellis and Jorge Glem paying Cuatro. The program starts with the title suite composed by Simon and concludes with “El Diablo Suelto”. The music swings on top of powerful deep percussion capturing the fee land spirit of Venezuela.
