O’s Notes: Nuevo-tango maestro, saxophonist Julio Botti teams up with Matias Lanfranco, a more traditional tango musician. They performed together in a riveting live engagement late in 2017 that would be the last concert that Botti’s mother would witness before succumbing to cancer. This recording is a fine tribute to her, including both racy and romantic selections. There are fine vocal selections like “Cualquiera De Esta Nochas” (Any of these nights) featuring María Jose Rojas – voice or Silvia Lallana – voice, and with various musical configurations. We also enjoyed the jazz-laced tunes like “Oro Y Plata” making this recording modern, Pure Tango at its best!
