O’s Notes: LA-based pianist, composer Bobby West pays a tribute to Mary Turner, one of many African Americans who were lynched by white mobs. She was eight months pregnant with two sons, brutalized then murdered for protesting the lynching of her innocent husband. That racism is creeping back into our society but let us not forget the injustices of the past and prevent them from recurring. The music ranges from soul to gospel to jazz. Bobby gets support from a 22-piece orchestra over 11 selections including 7 originals with Maxayn Lewis providing vocals on 4 selections, notably “Sacred” and “A Scene From Sunday”.
