O’s Notes: Left coast pianist Dan West makes his octet into a big band using electronics and dubbing. The effect is not as hokey as it sounds. His musicians are strong, including Ron Blake (t), Francisco Torres (tb), Andrew Hill (b), and Tony Pia (d). We liked “Tell Me A Bedtime Story”, the fusion bent on “Zoisha” featuring guest percussionist Lenny Castro, and “Wayside Walk”.
