O’s Notes: Saxophonist, composer Paul Carlon formed a cordless trio in 2015 with conguero Wilson “Chembo” Corniel and bassist Alex Ayala. They were initially put together for a brunch gig in Manhattan and now are set to release the second recording Between Us Three. The music is based on classic jazz improvisations with a large dose of Cuban/Puerto Rican rhythms. They open, with a little calypso on “Anabacoa”, there’s fine bass work on “Espejos” and “Papasito Rides Again”. Elsewhere, they all stand tall, notably on “Infant Eues” and “That Trio Vibe”.
