O’s Notes: Composer, arranger, producer and band leader Ian Charleston leads a well-orchestrated large ensemble for A Fresh Perspective. The power and poise of the band reminds us of bands from his alma mater, University of North Texas. There are many melodic solos including Kerry Moffit (flugelhorn) and Ryan Persaud (b) on the mellow “Sunday Morning”. Ian’s wife Emily Charleston sings a warm take of “Blue Skies” along with “Everything I’ve Got” accompanied by Moffit’s muted trumpet solo. The brass accents are crisp throughout on top of a bouncy, swinging rhythm section.
