O’s Notes: The venerable bassist seems to age like fine wine, getting more mellow and robust with time. It’s definitely time to appreciate Heath who has performed for over 30 years mainly with his brothers but also with others. He opens with a solo intro to “A Love Song” that has a wealth of good feeling. It sets the stage for a moving set that is very engaging featuring Percy without getting monotonous. In fact, his melodic leads from the lower register come off very well giving a different twist to these standards. And his anchoring of the beat is rock solid whether he’s walking or keeping the pace. Hats off to a living legend.
