O’s Notes: This is a live set at The Jazz Standard in New York where they are recording a wealth of great live sessions lately. This quartet plays only six tunes but most are in excess of nine minutes! As you can imagine that means there is a lot of soloing. And the solos are strong led by Frank’s sax on center stage. Curtis Lundy makes a strong statement on bass before Morgan and drummer Billy Hart trade blows on “Billie’s Bounce”. Pianist George Cables provides the glue and shines in the spotlight on “On Green Dolphin Street”. There is a lot of action throughout the set but there’s no doubt that Frank is in control with sweet swinging melodies on each tune.
