O’s Notes: Winard plays his drums with a sense of rhythm that puts him into the mix as a prominent band member. This is evident on the opener “Soul Time” and carries through the set. The sextet includes Patrick Rickman (t), Brian Horton (sax), Jeb Patton (p), Kevin Jones (bongos) and? The music is both upbeat with Latin percussive elements [“Mr. Baggy Pants”] and sedative as on a nice arrangement of “Here’s to Life”. But the bluesy bop tunes like “Dat Dere” with the warm sax solo make this CD special!
