O’s Notes: Drummer Dafnis Prieto came to New York from Cuba several years ago and has quickly established himself as one of the premier Latin drummers of the scene. He wrote all nine tracks and they have an exciting quotient that grabs the listener. He plays tunes based on Cuban tradition like “Tumba Francesa” and also combines the Latin pulse with straight ahead jazz and fusion. You will hear the Avant Garde influence of Steve Coleman, DD Jackson and Henry Threadgill, all of whom he played with upon arriving in New York. The current band members include Brian Lynch (t), Yosvany Terry (sax), Luis Perdomo (p) and Hans Glawischnig (b). They are equally talented and add to the success of this project.
