O’s Notes: AfriKan JaaZZ has lots of elements that many would characterize as calypso, reggae and Caribbean. But these African musicians are rooted with the basis for much of American music. Ambolley leads on piano and with vocals in English and his native tongue. The program is mostly festive originals but Blay also plays some cool arrangements of “All Blues” and “Footprints”.
