O’s Notes: John dedicates this album to the legendary jazz sax players before him including Zims, Coltrane, Gordon and Rollins. As we listened, we could hear the influences. He is joined by Lee Bloom (p), Chris Amberger (b) and Alan Hall (d) to perform nine songs. Most are freshened classics but there are also a couple of originals, notably, the title track. Among the best of the rest are “Inger” and “Nothing Personal”.
