O’s Notes: The best way to describe this well-recorded large ensemble is teamwork. They share the stage and focus on making great music. WJO is an assemblage of the best musicians in the New York area. Included in the 17 members are Jason Rigby (ts), Marvin Stamm (t), Ted Rosenthal (p) and bassist Harvie S. They’ve been performing together for about five years and this is their debut recording. It consists of eight arrangements pulling tunes penned by Joe Henderson, Bill Evans, Horace Silver, Coltrane, Shorter and George Harrison. The brass is sweet, mellow and packed with power when called on and the rhythm section never misses a beat. This is a strong performance.
