O’s Notes: Saxophonist Bob Mintzer assembles an all-star large ensemble, the“All L.A. Band“to perform ten of his original compositions. Drummer Peter Erskine put the project together pulling together many of Los Angeles best musicians including Wayne Bergeron (t), Bob McChesney (tb), Bob Sheppard (sax), Adam Schroeder (sax), Russell Ferrante (p) and Larry Koonse (g). The team is flawless performing a punchy, brass-laden set that is powerful and crisp, rather energizing on tunes like “Home Basie”. Other standouts are “Ellis Island”, “Slo Funk”and “Runferyerlife”.
