O’s Notes: This band, led by Swiss Cameroonian Nat Su (a sax), has a fresh approach that is intriguing. It’s neo-bop with layers of complexity yet it is balanced and not off of the edge. “Beef” is an excellent example of this. Mark Turner (t sax) , Joe Martin (b), Mike Kanan (p) and Jordi Rossy (d) join Nat to get it done without excess flashiness.
