O’s Notes: Hamilton leads his quintet playing Brazilian Popular Music (MPB). It has superceded samba/bossa nova as the instrumental music for the ages and it comes with a pleasant feel that is festive. His partners are guitarist Daniel Santiago, Gabriel Grossi (harmonica), André Vasconcelos (b) and Márcio Bahia (d). Hamilton plays mandolin. Unlike some contemporary music forms, there is a degree of complexity to MPB. These musicians are up to the challenges presented with well-coordinated melodies at breakneck speeds. Among our favorites is “01 Byte10 Cordas” which displays all of the aforementioned elements.
