O’s Notes: LAGQ is John Dearman, Matthew Greif, William Kanegiser and Scott Tennant. They invite guest artists Luiciana Souza (vocals), Kevin Ricard (percussion) and Katisse Buckingham (flute) to bring in different flavors along the way. They are focused on the music of Brazil that has strongly influenced these four US bred guitarists. It’s tough to speak of Brazilian music without mentioning the genius of Jobim and LAJQ pays tribute several times most notably on a medley capped with Souza’s soaring vocals on “Stone Flower”. They also pay homage to Baden Powell, Matthew Dunne, Heitor Villa-Lobos and Clarice Assad on “Bluzilian”. It’s a fine collection.
