O’s Notes: Cuban percussionist Arturo Stable is a brilliant young composer. He infuses jazz-fusion and avant-garde with a large dose of his native music. The resulting amalgamation is a heavily syncopated mix that is funky, cool and energetic. Stable performs as a quintet for Call with pianist Aruan Ortiz, Edward Perez (d), Javier Vercher (horns) and featuring Francisco Mela playing drums. Violinist Ian Izquierdo makes a guest appearance on the title track. We really enjoyed the peaceful ballad “Old Memories” but this is Arturo’s date and he shines on the burners!
