O’s Notes: Drummer Art Blakey has assembled his Jazz Messengers for many years and served as the launching pad for many jazz greats. This 1962 release featured one of the sweetest brass sections with Curtis Fuller (tb), Freddie Hubbard (t) and Wayne Shorter (sax). They are prominent on “This Is for Albert”. The rhythm section is Reggie Workman (b), Cedar Walton (p) and the maestro, Blakey. It was reissued in 2007 as one of producer Orrin Keepnews’ special editions featuring 24 bit remastering of the original along with two bonus takes. These are gems for any jazz collection!
