O’s Notes: Drummer Davis is a veteran of many years yet this is only his second album as a leader. He maintains a swinging pace and is joined by a fine band including Dean Johnson (b), Mark Soskin (p), Jack Schantz (t) and Dave Sterner (sax). Guest artist Phil Woods (sax) plays on three tracks as well notably “If You Could See Me Now” and “A Different Day”. We liked the brass harmony on “Fumba Rumba” and the energetic “Wakin’ Up Blues” in a session that kept us tapping our feet all the way through!
