O’s Notes: Kenny Lavender plays trumpet, produces, composes and/or arranges all of the music and leads this big band to an energizing performance. This large ensemble swings like a quintet with powerful brass that is rich, warm and precise! Kenny morphs into a crooner on several tracks but the instruments are the dominating force on both parts of this Conscious Journey. Andy Watson (d) Phil Palombi (b) and Rick Germanson (p) form a tight rhythm section with brass that includes Jason Rigby (sax), Alan Ferber (tb) and Scott Wendholt (t). There are two discs and lots of good entertainment.
