O’s Notes: This is a swinging session all the way through, courtesy of a solid rhythm section that keeps your feet busy tapping the beat. Doug Weiss walks his bass to any tempo and adds a cool bass solo as well on “Day In May”. Each of the artists gets a chance to shine but it’s Bret’s date and in addition to leading the quintet and writing all of the tunes, he adds mellow lead lines on trombone. This is good modern jazz that warrants a serious listen.
