O’s Notes: Young Chicago sax veteran, Eric Alexander teams up with Harold Mabern (p), John Webber (b) and drummer Joe Farnsworth. There is a calypso feel on “Sonrisa” before they swing on “Almost Like Being in Love”. “It’s Magic” is a warm ballad just the mesmerizes the pallet ahead of our favorite of the set, “A Few Miles From Memphis”, an upbeat neo-bop tune with a blues beat and that Latin bass line from Webber. A couple of originals balances with six standards make this one cook. It is subtle but well done.
