O’s Notes: Trombonist Wallace has played a lot of different types of music including popular and R&B/funk but he decided in 1992 to focus on jazz. He was strongly influenced by Afro-Cuban rhythms and we hear some of that in Dedication. Wayne enjoys his work and this comes through in his playing. His solos flow and have good themes. We liked the brass blends as well as the strong performance from bassist David Belove especially on “Mr. Day”.
