O’s Notes: Drummer Nasar Abadey is a veteran performer in the DC area. It’s been 10 years since his last release but Diamond in the Rough was worth the wait. The band is a well-knit unit with James King (b), Joe Ford (sax), Gary Thomas (ts) and Allyn Johnson (p). There are other guest artists including his son Kush Abadey (djembe drum) on “The Covenant”. The program has seven mellow selections. Six are originals along with a cover of “There’s No Greater Love with a strong contribution from Johnson. We enjoyed the set especially Nasar’s work on drums that is prominent but not overshadowing the rest of the band.
